Statistical Process Control is a methodology that uses Control Charts to assess process performance over time using statistically based parameters and the calculation of capability indices to assess process capability to meet customer specifications. The methodology has been widely used in manufacturing and is equally applicable to non manufacturing environments. The workshop, which assumes no prior learning, will cover the following: 1. What is Statistical Process Control? 2. The meaning of various basic statistics 3. Elements and interpretation of control charts 4. Understand the difference between control limits and specification limits 5. Understand common causes and special causes of variation 6. How understanding different types of variation helps direct your problem solving 7. The creation of various types of control charts 8. “Hands on” activity on data collection and calculation 9. Calculation of process capability indices to assess how robustly you can meet specifications 10. Implementing quality assurance on your measurement systems 11. Ideas on how to “Put it all together” for comprehensive monitoring of performance If you attended the GQC session last October on “Statistical Process Control Concepts”, then the workshop items 1 to 6 will provide a recap of that session whilst items 7 to 11 will provide new content to help you to implement SPC techniques in your organisation.

The presenter, Flavio Giurco, has a passion for data and for displaying it to provide insights for decision making. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of statistical process control gained over many years at Alcoa of Australia and currently at the Transport Accident Commission. His presentation will utilise a range of case studies from manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments to illustrate concepts.
